Using the framework in teaching
Educators may discuss The Five C Theory, link to public pages, cite the work accurately, and create their own original questions about the framework for ordinary teaching and scholarship. Purchasing or borrowing a book permits reading and normal classroom discussion; it does not transfer copyright or automatically authorize copying for a group.
Uses that do not normally require a separate license
- Linking students to freely available public webpages or resources
- Displaying a lawfully acquired physical copy while teaching
- Using brief attributed quotations where permitted by law
- Creating original commentary, assignments, or analysis that does not reproduce protected material
- Discussing the five-force framework without presenting unofficial materials as authorized editions
Any permission statement attached to a specific open resource controls that resource and may allow additional use.
Uses that require permission or a license
Written permission is required before reproducing a chapter or substantial excerpt; scanning or uploading material to an LMS or shared drive; placing material in a course pack or library e-reserve; distributing copied worksheets, slides, diagrams, or facilitator materials; translating or adapting the work; recording or selling a course built around protected materials; or using the Five C emblem or official diagram as an organizational program mark.
Repeated use across sections, semesters, campuses, cohorts, offices, workshops, or paid programs may require an institutional or organizational license even when an individual copy has been purchased.
Learning management systems and course packs
A license request should identify the exact material, course or program, institution, instructor, number of learners, delivery platform, access controls, academic term, territory, language, and whether participants pay a fee. Approved LMS material must be limited to the authorized learners and term, must preserve attribution, and must be removed or renewed when the license ends.
Books, digital copies, and participant quantities
Each reader should have a lawfully acquired copy or licensed access unless a written agreement provides a shared-use model. A personal ebook or private download link may not be forwarded to a class, uploaded to an LMS, or copied for participants. Group, classroom, event, and institutional packages may be requested through the Educator Center or Bulk and Institutional Orders.
Attribution and integrity
Use the title The Five C Theory, name Bhai-Dhawa Sesay as author, and identify Leone Connect Publishing as publisher. Preserve the meaning of quotations and label any educator-created interpretation, diagram, translation, or adaptation as unofficial unless it has been approved. Do not imply institutional endorsement by the author or publisher.
Accessibility
We welcome requests for an accessible format or another reasonable educational access arrangement. State the barrier, requested format, course timing, number of authorized users, and assistive technology if useful. Do not include medical records or more personal information than is needed. We will review the request and available rights without charging a separate permission fee solely for a reasonable accessibility accommodation, although the underlying books or licenses may still carry their normal price.
Libraries, research, and reserves
Libraries may acquire physical copies through normal channels and may link to public resources. Digital lending, electronic reserves, repository deposits, archival copies, interlibrary distribution, or network access must follow the product license, applicable law, and any written agreement. Research quotation and analysis remain subject to applicable copyright exceptions.
Workshops, facilitators, and organizational training
A facilitator, trainer, consultant, nonprofit, government office, company, or civic program needs written authorization to reproduce materials for participants, charge for a program using protected materials, translate or adapt the framework, or present an unofficial program as approved by The Five C Theory. The license may address facilitator qualifications, participant quantities, territory, term, credits, reporting, and resale restrictions.
Prohibited use
Do not resell copied materials, share private links, remove rights notices, upload protected content to an open repository, use student or participant submissions outside the stated program, or use protected materials to train a commercial artificial-intelligence system without written permission.
How to request a license
Begin at the Educator Center for adoption support or use Rights and Permissions for copying, translation, adaptation, or organizational licensing. A request begins review but does not grant permission. Use may begin only after the written scope and any fee are agreed.
